ASE: a DLC map won't load or install (Fjordur, The Center, Genesis …)

Joining one of our map servers loads for a second, then drops you to the DLC menu or the main menu.
A map will not install, or will not download again after you removed it — players installing The Center have seen errors such as "Missing File Privileges".
After switching Steam to the preaquatica branch, DLC licences or the install fail.

The map's content is not installed on your PC, or the local copy is broken; leftover files can even survive a reinstall. Our ASE cluster runs many of the game's DLC maps — the Servers page lists every map — and a map can only load if its content is installed on your PC. After a switch to the preaquatica branch, the ARK Wiki notes that a verify of the game files may be needed when DLC licences or the install fail.

Check first: is the map installed? In Steam right-click ARK: Survival Evolved → Properties → DLC and make sure the map is ticked.
If it is ticked but still fails: untick it, delete the map's folder in steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Content (for Fjordur the thread names the folder Fjordur), tick it again, then run Verify integrity of game files (Properties → Installed Files, older Steam: Local Files). This is the standard fix the replies give; it did not help the player who asked in that thread.
Check that the drive has enough free space for the map.
If DLC licences fail right after switching to preaquatica, run Verify integrity of game files.
Last resort: one player got The Center working again only after uninstalling the game, deleting the leftover files and reinstalling it.

How long to wait: a map download can be large; let Steam finish before you start the game again.

There is nothing to fix on the server: the map's files live on your PC, and the Servers page lists every map we run. If your survivor is already uploaded and you cannot load the map you meant to go to, download it on another of our ASE maps that you have installed — our ASE maps form one cluster. Ask an admin if the survivor is not offered there.

Tell an admin the map, the time (the clock in your profile menu shows the server's time), your character's name, what you carried or had uploaded, and the exact message on the screen. For a transfer: both maps and both times. Report the same day — the backups reach back only about two days. Contact admin is in your profile menu; the Guides page has a question box.

Install every map you plan to visit before you travel, so an upload never waits for a map you cannot load.
